Thanks a lot, I feel somewhat flattere ![]()
I think I forgot to state that I’m not a social scientist. Knowledge Management (KM) is not my primary business. From time to time we build classical KM web apps and I always felt those indexed content and fact graves are not the best possible solution.
And btw hiding your abilities and knowledge in an internal company KM suite doesn’t do you a favourite when trying to show these abilities to prospective customers: “Well, we know a lot and are top dog in your field of business - but I can’t show you - it’s secret” *ouch*
So I take whatever good literature on the topic I can get, concentrate it according to my use case and present it here - just to go the way from theory back to praxis deployed with the techology I know best: web apps. But I will always give the references for you to use the original source of information.
So please be prepared for some additional theory to get an overview of current research and for some practical ideas how that can be achieved with modern technology.

This will be the start of a series of articles dealing with the transition of knowledge management to competence networking. Planned topics are (at least) the nature of knowledge, classical knowledge management, the idea of competence management and which current developments in technology are able to support the realization of a competence network site.
Interesting start! Looking forward to hearing more about this, as it is a brand-hot theme in my company.
